to declare which wizard they are playing)?
You declare yourself as a minion.

Just a quick question: on page 2 in the MEBA rulebook, under the
heading "declaring that you are a Balrog player" it says you must
tell your opponent before the game that you are a Balorg player
(ie you have the Balrog character card in your deck). Has this
rule been changed?
My error. I was thinking of another question regarding whether
the Balrog was a new type, like Fallen Wizards, or just another
type of minion player. Before starting companies are picked,
you must tell your opponent you a playing a Balrog.

Subject: [Van] Another question or two...
1. If my Wizard/RW is at a haven, can I bring a character into
play, at the haven, but not into the wizard/RW's company? (i.e. to
get an untapped haven with that character)? Or does the character
have to come into play into the same company as the wizard/RW,
move, and then come back to get the untapped haven? I forget.
p.58 MELE - "If your Ringwraith is in play, your ringwraith (or a
character with enough direct influence to control the character to
be played) must be at the site at which the character is to be
played." p.20 MELE - "When you play a character, you may place him
into a company already at his arrival site _or_ he may become a new
company (consisting of one character)."
2. Can a Black Arrow be tapped in CVCC to reduce the Prowess/Body
of someone/company attacking you (since the wording states "attack
against the Bearer's Company")?
No. The attacker cannot play Black Arrow because he is not facing
an attack. The defender cannot play Black Arrow because it is a
resource during the defender's hazard turn. The only resources
which may be played by the defender during CvCC are ones that
cancel the attack or affect a strike.
