European championship 2001

Eindhoven, 2 - 4 november 2001

Jean-Paul Keulen The European Championships are over. I had a great time myself, but at the moment I'm still recuperating from the lack of sleep I suffered before, during and after the weekend (for various reasons), so no full report from me yet. I hope some of the others who were present are willing to write down their experiences and send them in!

Some facts: On Friday we played a hero only constructed deck tournament (6 participants), and a really weird Lidless Eye/Challenge Deck/AtS/Dragons booster draft tournament (8 participants).

On Saturday 19 people played in the open qualifier; nine of them qualified for the European Championship on Sunday. There was also a hero booster draft (don't remember how many participants).

On Sunday 20 pre-qualified players participated in the European Championship. After four rounds, the winner was non other than the previous European Champ Wanja Hargens (Germany)! Congratulations! Patrick Kubrat (Germany) came in second, Ernst Brun (France) came in third. 12 people played in the hero sealed deck side-event.

I'd like to thank our staff members for making our Lord of the Rings booth at the convention such a big succes, 999 Games for allowing us to be at the con and prize support, Arco for the ring, Wim for arrangings tons of things, Luc for coordinating the tournaments on Saturday and Sunday, Liz Danforth for being the nicest person in the world hands down, and of course, everybody who came to play in one or more of the tournaments for coming! I hope you had a good time!
