Venue

We'll use two locations in Tilburg, a city in the south of the Netherlands easy to reach from abroad (Belgium, Germany):

Tournaments
Denksportcentrum Theseus
Bredaseweg 167
5038ND  Tilburg (can find a map here)
Phone: +31 13 543 36 46

It isn't overly far to walk from the train station. But if you prefer a bus you can take line 45 from Tilburg Centraal direction Blaak and get out at Eiklaan. It leaves on Saturday at 9:27, 10:15 + every 30 minutes. On Sunday 10:26 + every hour (so early on Sunday walking is the best option).

Group dinner
Humphrey's
Heuvel 34
5038CP Tilburg (can find a map here)
Phone: +31 13 581 01 46

(Within walking distance from train station)

Lodging

For those that want to stay overnight we have selected two types of lodging based on interest. If you're looking for lodging (or can offer some) please say so when registering (and please specify which type).

Hotel Mercure Tilburg Center****

  • Rate € 79,- to € 88,-  per twin room per night, breakfast included.
  • You can extend your stay with Friday night and / or Sunday night at the same rate.
  • Late arrival possible (do mention this when making the reservation)
  • Ask while registering, then Wim will mediate for those looking for a room-mate and help you with your reservation.
  • Please follow this link for location and access details. The hotel parking is in Parking Heuvelpoort, on the secure levels 7 and up and at a special (slightly lowered) hotel rate.

Staying with a (local) player

  • The cheapest solution?
  • Please keep in mind that these players generally do not live in the center of Tilburg (generally in surrounding towns). Therefore this will take some extra time and may cost you a bus / train ticket.
  • Limited availability but probably not asked for that much either, so we think it will work out fine.
  • Michel mediates.

Lunch / drinks

Drinks are available at the venue as well as some sandwiches. Bringing your own drinks is not permitted.

Snacks are available in the immediate vicinity. You can bring your own as well.

On site merchants

Wim Heemskerk, from Gwaihir.net, will be there with a limited assortment of MeCCG. If you want to make sure he brings what you're looking for you'd best order in advance (of course, you can pay on site and won't be charged any shipping).

We encourage everyone to bring his spare cards to get some major trading going.

If you would like to sell on site as well, you can contact Michel to obtain permission in exchange for sponsoring.

Sponsors / prizes

OK, we know prizes are not the first thing on your minds but still they are nice, aren't they? It's also good to see so many people (still) care about MeCCG and we feel they deserve to be mentioned:
  • CardExchange.com donated a One Ring for the Dutch Champion.
  • Gwaihir.net supplies the cards for sealeds with a large discount and several MeCCG prizes as well.

Event details

Introduction for novices

Saturday 10:30-12:30 (+€ 0,00 or +€ 7,50)
Do you want to learn how to play? Then this event is for you! You will play a casual game which will be used to explain the rules to you in detail.  Without a doubt you can play in this afternoons (crap) hero sealed after this introduction.
You can bring a (simple) deck you prepared in advance (or just bring a starter), or you can purchase a ready to play deck (a challenge deck) during the introduction. For this deck you'll pay a special price of just € 7,50.

Advanced workshop

Saturday 10:30-12:30 (+€ 0,00)
The theme of this workshop will be determined based on demand: do tell what you'd like when you register. . Would you like to look beyond the good guys? Would you like to take a champion's deck apart and learn how and why it works? Would you like to learn how to deal with a certain hard to face hazard strategy? We'll kick one or two of the best players available out of his bed early enough to indulge you.

Dutch Open

Saturday 10:30-18:30 (+€ 0,00, competitive)

General opponent 2-deck constructed, 4 rounds Swiss (with lunch break). Deck lists are mandatory. All can play, but for players living in the Netherlands this tournament is also their last chance to qualify for Dutch Nationals played on Sunday. (At least four people will make it to day two, possibly five, if that makes an even number of players for day two.)

Crap tournament

Sunday 13:00-19:00 (+€ 9,50, great fun!)

Sealed deck (i.e. you play with the cards you receive at the start of the tournament) with one Wizards starter (unlimited), 2 boosters Wizards (unlimited) and 2 boosters Dragons per person. 3 rounds Swiss using the special crap tournament rules for deck building and scoring [Word document, thanks www.meccg.de]. Hint: the goal is to build the crappiest deck possible..

Minion draft

Saturday 13:00-19:00 (+€ 12,50, suited for player new to the minion alignment)

Draft tournament (i.e. you play with cards chosen from a common pool) with per person two starters the Lidless Eye in the pool. 3 rounds Swiss.
Deck Clinic "Handling those darn minions" Sunday 10:15-11:15 (+€ 0,00)

An often heard complaint from new or casual players against the standard general opponent format is that handling those minion opponents requires a bit more study then they can (or find fun to) invest. Sounds familiar? Then grab your chance and sit in at this deck clinic by Mark Alfano, the reigning leader of the NetMeCCG league visiting from the US.

Dutch Nationals

Sunday 10:30-18:30 (+€ 0,00, competitive)

By invitation only. General opponent 2-deck constructed, 4 rounds Swiss (with lunch break). Deck lists are mandatory. Some people (based on ranking and tournament wins) have already qualified and will soon receive their invitations. Other Dutchies get a last chance to qualify in Saturday's Open.

Hero constructed

Sunday 11:30-13:00 (+€ 0,00, suited to novices)

Hero 1-deck constructed (i.e. you play a wizard with a home built deck),  4 rounds Swiss. Please bring a deck list.

Spanish sealed

Sunday 11:30-17:30 (+€ 10,00, MeCCG memory?)

Sealed deck (i.e. you play with the cards you receive at the start of the tournament) with one Spanish (unlimited) Wizards starter and 3 Spanish (unlimited) Wizards boosters per person. 3 rounds Swiss.

Group dinner

We're currently selecting a restaurant that will offer a menu for  € 15,- to € 20,- (excluding drinks)

All events are dependent on interest: an event will be cancelled if the number of registrations for it is insufficient. New events can also be added, if many people ask for it.

Do check out this page again later for more details!
