Love the Game, Can't find anyone to play

Post by Wacho » Thu Feb 21, 2008 7:04 pm

I started playing this game in 1995 when it first came out.  For several years it wasn't too hard to find people to play, there were organized tournaments and sometimes you would run into people at game stores who played.  But after a while, especially after ICE imploded I didn't know anyone who played, and it was years before I finally stumbled on meccg.net and got connected back into the Middle Earth community.

So, if you're new you might have the same problem I did.  You love the game but don't know anyone who plays.  Here are some resources for you to meet up with people and actually play this great game.

Global Player List:  http://www.meccg.net/trading/metwplay.htm
This list has locations and emails for many players around the globe.  Hopefully you're close enough to meet up with someone.

Online Gaming:
NetMeCCG -- http://www.meccg.net/netmeccg/
This is the original online MECCG game system.  It's pretty good and has some nice features.  Available for Windows 98/95.  I'm not sure how many people actually use this nowdays.

GCCG -- http://gccg.sourceforge.net/
This system is available for Windows/Mac/Linux.  It takes a little bit of work to get up and running, but it has a lot of players using it.  Some more info on the program and how to use it is available in this thread http://www.meccg.net/dforum/viewtopic.php?t=238

CCGWorkshop Gatling Engine -- http://www.ccgworkshop.com/
I only came across this recently.  It seems to be a Windows program.  I've not actually played it so I don't know much.  If anyone has tried it please report back

Other important MECCG community sites:
Council of Elrond -- http://www.councilofelrond.org/
Player run World Council.  Lots of people and resources available here.  Also links to regional councils.

Chris Cable's MECCG page -- http://www.meccg.net/trading/
The place to go to find people to trade with.  Also many other MECCG links and resources.

David, great job on the Beginner Central forum, very useful and practical!

If I may I'd just like to add a few things about finding players:

There's the once-a-year event called "Lure of MECCG", which is held in Germany during the last week-end of February.
Admittedly, not everyone can take time off to attend, but it's well worth the effort considering the number of players who come together from all over the world (Germany, US, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Canada, etc.).
A great place indeed to meet players!

Another option is to post a short note on the notice board of your local gaming store. Former players of MECCG might still be living in the neighborhood and could very well be looking for other players for a friendly encounter.

Yet another alternative is to contact local RPG clubs: chances are there will be some CCG players and if you're lucky, some of them might be former MECCG players!

Hope this gives new players some leads to explore.

Cheers,

sweden, finland, spain, italy, austria, sitzerland, czech republic, poland, hungary, japan
now i think the list is complete ;-) (though not all those nations are represented each year). anyway: being among 100+ players is definaltey worth the journey. so plan your trip to Lure of MECCG for 2009 taking place from 27th feb to 1st march (of course again on castle stahleck).

back to topic:
i am collecting not only MECCG cards, but also addresses of players from all over the world. when putting someone into this list, i am asking if its okay to give away the email address to other players.
so i might help to establish some contact. just ask!

Well, I've never been to Lure, but I hear it's great.  In any case I'm surprised you guys didn't include the URL.  So....here it is.

The Gatling Engine server seems to often have problems of late (I use it for my WoT needs).  You'll often risk not being able to sign in at all.

From what I know, GatlingEngine doesnt work anymore. All Star Wars CCG players moved to another program. For online is GCCG definitely the best option.
Player of killer hazards no-one else ever dares to play :D
