Is a complete set without the boxes and the booklet worth a lot less than one including everything?

I think the Balrog is already worth a lot to people who want a complete collection to play with, so it's more about the cards than the boxes.

What about the bunch of grey-bordered reprints in "The Balrog" starters? Would you want those cards if you were buying a "The Balrog" set?

I would not care, but I am more a player than collector anyway. In the challenge decks are some good rare cards with grey border, but I believe the balrog does not have grey bordered cards of any worth.

That is correct - the box/booklet are worth next to nothing, as are the grey bordered cards.  Its the black bordered "Balrog Only" cards that make up the worth of the set.  You will see unopened boxes of Balrog going for more than Balrog collections in binders (without boxes/booklet) mainly because of card condition (sealed box = mint cards).

I just bought 2 other full sets, missing only Crept Along Carefully in both set, for 175.00$US (for both sets!!)

I finally took a look at my MEBA cards to check the quality.  They all look perfect to me?  Does somebody have a picture they could post of the "problem" with the BA cards?  i don't see any wierd cutting, off centering, etc on mine.  Well, the corners are a bit rounder but that's about it...

IIRC, the problem is that the cards vary wildly by how centered they are.  Some cards are perfectly centered, while others have huge left borders and almost no right border, for instance.

Of course, that's IIRC...I sold my playset a couple of years ago (along with 5 Longbottom Leafs that I got for about $3 each back in 2001.  I was excited about that until I remembered how many boxes of Dragons & TW Unlimited I bought

Prices seem to be going down since a few weeks.

An auction with both sealed decks ended at 253.63$ today.
Last week there was one at 256.87$.

This is a lot better than the one a 455.00$ just last month.

Maybe all the crazy people willing to pay that much has enough The Balrog now. lol
