The Balrog
Ok, here's a simple question.
If I want a "The Balrog" complete set, how much should I expect to pay...if i'm lucky and patient?
Thanks

You're looking to pay about $300-$350 USD for two sealed starter decks. If the set is open, missing cards, etc you can get a deal sometimes. A playset (3 of each non-unique) could very well run close to $800-$1000. For our friends overseas, it's not as bad as the Euro is strong. Not good for us North Americans though...

In case I wasn't clear, two sealed starter decks (1 red,1 blue) make up a complete set with some extra cards left over. See:

I guess I'll have to pass on this set! loltbadiuk wrote:You're looking to pay about $300-$350 USD for two sealed starter decks. If the set is open, missing cards, etc you can get a deal sometimes. I just bought a near-complete set for cheap. It's missing 6 cards:
1 Longbottom Leaf (what a surprise)
1 Show Things Unbidden
1 Challenge the Power
1 Great Army of the North
1 Desire All for Thy Belly
1 The Sun Shone Fiercely
But I got all those in extra (from another box missing a lot of cards)
1 Bolg
1 Crook-Legged Orc
1 Hill-Troll
1 Mountain-Maggot
1 The Balrog
1 Elven Rope
1 Crept Along Carefully
1 Angmar Revisited
1 Breach the Hold
1 Cavers Unchoked
1 Flame of Udûn
2 Foe Dismayed
1 Gangways Over the Fire
1 Great Fissure
1 Obey Him or Die
1 Orders From the Great Demon
2 Out He Sprang
1 Roam the Waste
1 Roots of the Earth
2 Strangling Coils
1 Whispers of Rings
1 A Few Recruits
1 Olog Warlords
1 Ancient Deep-Hold
1 Moria
1 The Gem-Deeps
1 The Pûkel-Deeps
1 The Rusted-Deeps
1 The Under-Gates
1 The Under-Grottos
1 The Under-Leas
1 The Under-Vaults
1 The Wind-Deeps
I paid 80$ for all those and the guy also gave me 2 burning eye dices and a map.
I think it was a really good deal huh?

That's a really good price. I do know the Longbottom Leaf is one of the most valuable from MEBA though. I can't remember which other ones are the expensive ones though.
Not all of them are cut bad - I think mine are cut well.
Certain languages are notorious for bad cutting (Spanish), or at least in my experience. MEBA isn't a set I've ever heard anyone comment on before regarding badly cut cards.

Rumours of Rings, Whispers of Rings and Great Army of the North are some of the really usefull cards.
A few others will be more expensive, because you would like to have 3 of some non-unique like Beorning Skin-Changers and Unabated in Malice.
Congratulations on aquiring a near-complete set for such a price. I paid 80 euros for a complete set a few years back and am still really happy I did so.
