Ok, here's a simple question.

If I want a "The Balrog" complete set, how much should I expect to pay...if i'm lucky and patient?

Other way round.

One of each Balrog 'deck' gives you at least one of every card in the set. A full playset means 3 of every non-unique card, which means 3 of each 'deck.'

You're looking to pay about $300-$350 USD for two sealed starter decks.  If the set is open, missing cards, etc you can get a deal sometimes.  A playset (3 of each non-unique) could very well run close to $800-$1000.  For our friends overseas, it's not as bad as the Euro is strong.  Not good for us North Americans though...

I just bought a near-complete set for cheap. It's missing 6 cards:

I must I'm a little disappointed with this set quality.

There is a lot of cards with bad cutting...mainly the grey bordered reprints but a few of the "The Balrog only" cards.

The art is not as beautiful as in the previous sets...the colors are often a lot too bright and they seem weird.

That's a really good price.  I do know the Longbottom Leaf is one of the most valuable from MEBA though.  I can't remember which other ones are the expensive ones though.

Not all of them are cut bad - I think mine are cut well.

Certain languages are notorious for bad cutting (Spanish), or at least in my experience.  MEBA isn't a set I've ever heard anyone comment on before regarding badly cut cards.

Rumours of Rings, Whispers of Rings and Great Army of the North are some of the really usefull cards.

A few others will be more expensive, because you would like to have 3 of some non-unique like Beorning Skin-Changers and Unabated in Malice.

Congratulations on aquiring a near-complete set for such a price. I paid 80 euros for a complete set a few years back and am still really happy I did so.

Mine had some bad cuts too - mostly black edges showing up on the grey borders, sometimes quite badly.

Also note that Balrog cards have differently cut corners, which is a much bigger problem.
