Hi,

here is the requested list :D

English Promo Cards

English MECCG promo cards used to be free (you'd send a self-addressed stamped envelope to ICE and you'd receive a full set of promos), right now they're a little hard to get. In the Netherlands, some of the English promos are still available (for free) at tournaments.

English promo cards have a small white crown in their lower right corner.

These are the English promos:

Black Arrow - non-unique minor item, limited edition ME:TW
Fury of the Iron Crown - unique hazard short event, limited edition ME:TW
Neeker-breekers - non-unique hazard creature, limited edition ME:TW
The Iron Crown - unique greater item, limited edition ME:TW
Fatty Bolger - unique character, unlimited edition ME:TW
Ireful Flames - non-unique hazard permanent-event, ME:TD
More Alert Than Most* - non-unique resource permanent-event, ME:TD
Stormcrow* - non-unique hazard permanent-event, ME:TD
Angmar Arises* - non-unique hazard permanent-event, ME:DM
Bill Ferny* - unique agent, ME:DM
Never Seen Him* - non-unique hazard permanent-event, ME:DM
Deadly Dart - non-unique minion minor item, ME:LE
The Arkenstone - unique minion greater item, ME:LE
* - also available as a normal, non-promo card.

These cards are all tournament legal.

German Promo Cards

When you buy an entire box of the German edition of ME:TW, ME:TD or ME:DM, you get three special German promos. These cards all have art by Jo Hartwig. Except for Schwertmeister, there are no non-German versions of these cards, as far as I know.

German promos have a white dot with a black crown in it in their lower right corner.

These are the nine special German promos:

Das Pack for der Tuer (ME:TW)
Schwertmeister (ME:TW)
Zwergenaxt (ME:TW)
Belegennon (ME:TD)
Horn der Herausforderung (ME:TD) (see picture)
Ringil (ME:TD)
Baugur (ME:DM)
Freca (ME:DM)
Wolf (ME:DM)

Outside Germany, these cards are *not* tournament legal.

There's also a version of Taschendieb (German Pick-pocket) with alternative art by Jo Hartwig and a small white crown in the lower right corner (see picture). You used to get one if you won a tournament in Germany.

Ork-stadt (Goblin-gate, ME:LE) is hard to get too (wasn't on the original print sheet).

Normal German promo cards:

Das Wüten der Eisernen Krone (Fury of the Iron Crown, ME:TW)
Der Arkenstein (The Arkenstone, ME:LE)
Dick Bolger* (Fatty Bolger, ME:TW)
Die Eiserne Krone (The Iron Crown, ME:TW)
Flammen des Zorns (Ireful flames, ME:TD)
Halt's Maul (Shut Yer Mouth, ME:LE)
Schwarzer Pfeil (Black Arrow, ME:TW)
Sturmkrähe (Stormcrow, ME:TD)
Tödlicher Pfeil (Deadly Dart, ME:LE)
Zirperkirper (Neeker-breekers, ME:TW)
* - This version of Fatty Bolger has a black border instead of a blue border.

Dutch Promo Cards

Dutch promo cards have English titles and Dutch card text. They have a golden "In de Ban van de Ring" logo in the upper left corner of the artwork and a little white crown in the lower right corner of the card.

These are the Dutch promo cards:

Black Arrow
Neeker-breekers
Fatty Bolger*
Fury of the Iron Crown
Test of Form**, ***
The Iron Crown****
* - This version of Fatty Bolger has a black border instead of a blue border.
** - This version of Test of Form has alternative art by John Howe (see picture).
*** - There is also an even more rare version of this card *without* the gold "In de Ban van de Ring" logo.
**** - This version of The Iron Crown has no MP value printed on it.

The following dutch (non-promo) cards are special too:

Bilbo - There is no dutch version of this card!
Great Ship - Dutch version has slightly different artwork.
Lure of Nature - Dutch version has the wrong artwork (Daelomin) (see picture)!
The Nazgul are Abroad - Dutch version has slightly different artwork.
Udun (region card) - There is no dutch version of this card!

French Promo Cards

These are the normal French promo cards:

Fleche Noire (Black Arrow, ME:TW)
Fleche Mortelle (Deadly Dart, ME:LE)
Gros Bolger* (Fatty Bolger, ME:TW)
Furie de la Couronne de Fer (Fury of the Iron Crown, ME:TW)
Flammes du Courroux (Ireful flames, ME:TD)
Nicbriqueux (Neeker-breekers, ME:TW)
La Pierre Arken (The Arkenstone, ME:LE)
La Couronne de Fer (The Iron Crown, ME:TW)
* - This version of Fatty Bolger as a blue border, even though there is no blue bordered edition of ME:TW in French.

The following French cards are special too:

1 - This card can be found in one of the five fixed ME:LE packs. If you'd send all five numbered cards to Hexagonal (distributor of the French version of ME), you'd receive three promo cards: La Pierre Arken (ME:LE), Ringil, and Fury de la Couronne de Fer.
2 - Dito.
3 - Dito.
4 - Dito.
5 - Dito.
La Carte Maître d'armes - Promotional card for Maître d'armes.
Maître d'armes - French version of Schwertmeister. Very rare.
Merry - Merry was left out of the original print sheet.
Ringil - French version of Ringil (duh).
Snaga-hai - French version has the wrong artwork (Heralded Lord)!

Spanish promos are available in the following languages: Bask, Catalan, Galician, and Spanish.

Gezi Beltza / Fletxa Negra / Frecha Negra / Flecha Negra (Black Arrow, ME:TW)
Gezi Hiltzailea / Dard Mortifer / Dardo Mortifero / Dardo Mortifero (Deadly Dart, ME:LE)

There are only very few promo cards or cards with different artwork which are not listed here. The french Merry / Fatty is one of them but honestly I can't remember more missing cards yet <_<

Do you have other examples for cards which are not listed?

Anyelse thinks this could be a good quest? :-D

Yes, there are a lot of Misprint from all the foreign set, but (for me) it isn't correct to call them 'promo' or to list them with promo, because many of them are normal common/uncommon cards with different color or zoom in the artwork, so a BIG amount of them was printed;
also some of the cool Misprint (as dutch Lure of nature) are normal common card: their value is increased only because a lot of traders (also traders not interested in foreign cards) want them :)
I think that a complete list of all the Misprint is an hard work (I have almost all the foreign set of cards, and I see that it's a common thing to find cards with different artwork), but for now you can see a lot of good example in Chris Cable site (there are a link on the homepage).

The French double-sided Fatty/Merry "promo" is not on normal card stock. I would think of it more as a 'promotional card-type thing' than a promo card. I would not list it in a list of promo cards. Maybe I would, but as a note.

Special cards

Post by Thrain II » Sat May 22, 2004 9:22 pm

I would also be interested in a list of all so called "misprints". There are a lot of them and I find more of them day by day. I have sent some cards to Donato Giancola to get them back signed and while I was searching for some nice stuff for the letter I found a japanese UL Persuading Words which misses the "Art by..." text and a finnish The Will of the Ring which says "Art by Angus McBride" instead of Donato Giancola!

However, Donato signed both cards for me: Really funny! :D

Hi all!
Hello Grandfather Thrain! :D

You said above that Merry is left out of the original sheet. You also said that someone could send the Merry/Fatty Belger two-sided promo obect to Hexagonal and he/she could get Merry and Fatty Bolger promo.

1)Is this Merry a promo,or just a normal Merry card translated in French :?:
2)Even if it's a normal trnslated card,isn't it special anyway,since it's missing from the original sheet :?:

Thanks!
-Kostas.

It's a Merry translated in French with the promo symbol, IIRC.

Btw, Kostas, I forgot to congratulate you with that Fury ot Iron Crown. So, congrats! I'm still not sure if my 'good luck' had anything to do with it...

Merry was forgotten on the print sheet of the French METW edition. An extra copy of Fili (or was it Kili?) was in his place. So to add Merry after all, they printed him as a promo card complete with the promo symbol. From what I heard the primairy way of getting it was sending in a copy of that extra printed dwarf and getting a Merry in return.

In addition they probably handed him out here and there, I don't know, and based on this thread, sending in that magazine page apparently worked too.

There's also the Spanish misprint of All the Bells Ringing, which has a site-card back rather than a burning-eye back.

And of course the corresponding copy of "Old Forest" who has the Burning-Eye-Back instead of the Normal-Site-Back...

Why is the Spanish Goblin-Gate (La Puerta de los Trasgos) considered to be special?.... I have one, but I don't even know what's so interesting about it :(
