Your best starting company would be Bilbo as Gandalf's Friend, Dick (Healing Herbs, Cram), Sam (Backpack), Frodo (Wizard's Myrmidon) and Robin. Usually you want to form four companies from the beginning. Bilbo and Dick should always travel together while the other hobbits will journey on their own. Don't worry, it won't be too dangerous for your little people as you are not leaving the Shire (just free-holds and 1 free-domain - an Assassin is hopefully ready to your will) with one or two exceptions in your last turn.
The trick is that you draw lots of cards with the use of A Short Rest , Dark Tryst and Hobbits must make Haste and remember that each site in the Shire allows you to draw two cards. Usually you will be through your deck by turn three.

Here's a list where you should play which resources:
Bag-end: Chambers in the Royal Court, Red Book of Westmarch, (Bill the Pony)
Sackville: Hobbits, (Bill the Pony)
Michel Delving: (Hobbits), Lobelia, (Bill the Pony)
Bywater: (Hobbits), Rose Cotton
Aden Scarlet's Medical Library: Schwertmeister (played by Gandalf or Bilbo)
Tuckburrow: Sapling (played by Bilbo and Dick)
Old Forest/Tom's House: Tom
The White Towers [F]: Palantir of Elostirion (played by Pippin)

On your last turn you move Sam and maybe another company to Old Forest/Tom's House to play Tom. If Pippin will be in play you should move to The White Towers in order to get him the palantir and play Fool of a Took on him for another 2MPs.
Safe from the Shadow helps to store things in your last turn or just to safe one turn.
The Grey Hat is not necessary for this deck but it may be nice to have a Hobbit-lore or New Friendship handy.

The advantage of this deck is that it is really fast. The downside, however, is that you will not make very much MPs even with the help of Give Welcome to the Unexpected.

Concerning the use of dream cards in this deck i must say that many of them turned out to be not very useful: In about five games with this deck I never played The Trees have Ears, A Mind Alike and Looking Forward (these were only in the deck to reach the 33% dream card minimum); New Best Friend and Pipe I played only once or twice without using their effects, it was thematic, though. Really great cards, however, were There's Queer Folk About,  Hobbits must make Haste and Rose Cotton of course.

hehe, Karsten, you've added a new food to the list of favourite Hobbit dishes: dreamcheez of the South Farthing!
next time we'll start packing Whole Villages Roused again, Nico, make some killer minion versions please
btw. Dick is Fatty, for those less experienced in Hobbit genealogy.
